In which my dad sees a movie house for the first time in 20 years..

Last night my family went out to watch a movie. Our first, ever as a family. See, my dad hasn't been to a movie-house in 20 years. He has, well, had this stigma that if you step into a movie house you're bound to go out and get deathly-sick. Weird, but I guess it's just the doctor-side of him talking or thinking. It was "cute" seeing my dad see how movie-houses are nowadays, I think the last movie-house he went into were the ones in Cubao (hence, the stigma). My dad was sitting on the floor, checking out the carpeted floors, he even tried lounging on the love-seat which he really wanted to get, alas the movie we watched (King Arthur, which isn't half as bad) had ummm...pre-seating. So there..My dad and mom even had their pictures taken in front of the theatre, weird, but I was ok with it just for posterity. Hehe.

So there..

I'm back. Had to have my PC sent to the shop to have my motherboard and ram replaced, so yeah, I've a brand new "mobo" with matching RAM..minus the warranty, which actually expires in a few days..Sulit, noh! Hehe!

Hmmmm, can't think of anything to blog about right now, I was "disconnected" for over a week, so when I got back online last night, everything was just "stacked", email (thanks to yahoo's recent 100MB upgrade, I'm ok with leaving my email account "idle" without the fear of it bloating up), my daily "clicks", well most of them had too many updates to share here..So maybe I'll just start off clean tomorrow, or later.

Oh, I would like to share this though:

the new iPod. Remixed? über cool if you ask me, and the price isn't any different for what I paid for mine a few months ago. I'm still ok with my bar of soap, but the new iPod's 12-hour battery life does make me a bit "sad"? my iPod only having a maximum of 8-hours...Oh well..The new iPod looks a lot like the iPod mini, with the click wheel and all, plus the stuff that comes with the new iPod is better, I think. But that's just me. I do like the box it comes in though, so yeah, hehehe. I remember that Apple had this sort of promo a few months back wherein they packaged their iPod's in boxes which featured artists like: John Coltrane, among others. I would've loved to have one of those boxes. Hmmm..Nonetheless, I still stand by my experience of opening up my "soap", and I guess if ever anyone does decide on getting one (which shouldn't be too hard, the "decision" to get one), the whole process rather, "ritual" of opening your "soap", will just be too good not to do slowly (the opening). Basta. It's like..Sex..or something..hehehe..

So there....

So yeah, we lost. Fuck. Heck of a game, though.

But hey, look on the bright side, there's a great F1 race tonight. Yeba. :)

Animo La Salle!

Yeba yeba yeba. C'mon, tune in with me! Studio 23, NOW.

Go Go Kimi!

Yeah so I'm still happy with last night's qualifiers, even if Juan Pablo Montoya wasn't able to get into the top-three positions on the grid. I was also equally "happy" with Kimi Raikkonen getting into pole, so with Jenson Button's entry into the top-three, although I would've preferred Takuma Sato over him -- still it's better than seeing Schumacher on top, again.

Don't know what I'm talking about? Go here then.

And for my fellow BMW-fans, do head on over here for your "wallpapers", etc. you do need to register first. And if you're also rooting for the BAR-Honda F1 team, their website is also a great source for "stuff", hehehe...

Erratum on my post yesterday, TODAY pala yung game. So who's watching?

w.bloggar is a "blogging" application I've been using to post for the past three days. It's a helpful tool to do your posts on your blog, specially for people like me who have a "weak" grasp of html, css, and whathaveyou. It's free, and astonishingly, is able to support most blogging-services like Livejournal, Blogger.com among others. Try it! It's FREE!

Oh yeah....

I just saw this today: Darren Aronofsy(Pi,Requiem For A Dream), one of my favourite directors, may actually come out as the director of an upcoming adaptation of the comic-book classic (again another one of my favourites) Watchmen by Alan Moore(League of Extraordinary Gentlemen,Swamp Thing). Cool. More on it here.

Putang ina. Syet..

Thursday, July 08, 2004

I guess the "dread" I felt last night, finally came to fruitition today. As of 8PM this evening, I've a deadline for the thesis on MONDAY 11:30AM, deadline for an ASSEMBLY LANGUAGE written project on WEDNESDAY 5PM, and to make things worse, I might not be able to catch Kill Bill next week (yeah I'm skipping this week's showing times just to do the thesis, THAT's how DESPERATE and APT I am on meeting my Monday deadline, fuck) oh because I have to study for this HUGE exam, and I mean HUGE like me feeling like I'm going to be extending another term just for this 1 unit lab-subject, ON Thursday... Fuck. Such is life. I feel like I have ESP or something, or something...Yeah..

--

Apparently Michael Moore and Quentin Tarantino share the same "views" on copyrights. They both were pretty much apathetic? toward news that their movies, Moore's "Fahrenheit 9/11" and Tarantino's "Kill Bill", are being distributed "illegally" through online P2P networks and by "pirates" oveseas.

I think I posted something on Quentin Tarantino's view a month ago. Anyways, Moore says:

I don't agree with copyright laws, and I don't have a problem with people downloading the movie and sharing it...as long as they're not trying to make a profit off my labor.... I make these movies and books and TV shows because I want things to change, and so the more people who get to see them, the better.

yeah, blockquotes rule..

And a site, earlier today, even "hosted" a download of the film, although eventually the link was brought down. Here's the link to the site which hosted the movie earlier today, and here's a link to the "bit", on Moore's view.

--

I get almost every link I share here thru BoingBoing.net, the site is just a wonderful source of everything cool, wacky, crazy, ekek, etc. You guys should have it on your book-mark lists.

So here I am again, pimping links off boingboing.net.

Like this one which links to an article about how Marijuana enhances night-vision. And this one, a link to a site which details different Japanese Ice-Cream flavours, trust me, this link is worth checking, imagine chugging down on flavours like: Raw Horseflesh Ice Cream, Goat Ice Cream, even Chicken Ice Cream!!!! The Japanese, have definitely something for everything...

Lastly, one of the weirder links. A gadget to actually do, "automatic circumcisions"..

So there..

I've been soo busy lately, I haven't been able to keep track my favourite band: The Dave Matthews Band. Apparently (my, do I love that word, makes me feel, sexy and british) they have a new DVD-Live-Album see: DMB The Gorge. Plus there's a 6-CD Box-Set available for the Dave Matthews Band Store only. Fuck!!! I want this!!!
If you're on broadband, and you've the bandwidth to spare. Head on over to spite yourface.com. They've some cool videos, the most-recent one: Spider-Man: The Peril of Doc Ock is just too cool to not download...Yeah..Lego...

I suddenly miss playing with my Lego...

--

So it's 4:47AM, and I'm still up. My thesis group just packed up for the "Day"(?), and we're going to do a "stretch" of sorts, tomorrow until Sunday, well Monday early morning, just to get this thesis done..Such is life..

Iris has been soo stressed out, too. She's been piled up with soo many quizzes/tests and reports for the past month or so, ever since she started medical school. I miss hanging out with her. I miss her. We've recently taken to watching downloaded episodes of Iron Chef, which is just loads of fun to watch, specially with her. We love to eat. Half of the time we're together, we're chomping on something. Oh, I guess I just miss her. I've still to post pictures of our "baby", Tulip -- her anniversary gift to me. My dad bought Tulip a cage a week ago, just because she likes to roam around during the night, plus we've this "rat-problem" in the house so there's poison looming around the floor. I'm paranoid that way, not letting her roam around on her own in the house, thinking and being paranoid about her licking up some poison, or something, or getting stuck on fly-paper. Oh well...

So there..
I'm currently having this huge feeling of "dread". Really. I get attacks like this, often, most of the time the reasons behind these feelings are: deadlines, stress, a fight with someone, and sometimes "nothing". It sucks, the feeling, since I get butterflies in my tummy, I suddenly feel nauseous, I just feel weird. My hands are trembling right now, typing this.

I'm weird that way, sorry.

On to better things.

I'm a big fan of the show CSI. Lately though, I've found a "pattern" in their shows, no it's not the "routine-bulaga-close-ups" of evidence, it's not Grissom's trademark "cliche-ish proverb" everytime an episode starts, not even the "obligatory" Marg Helgenberger cleavage-shot.

It's this "pattern", rather, "habit"(?) of the casting-people to "cast" in actors and actresses who've once or twice appeared on a popular blockbuster, sometimes B-movie film. And more often than not, it's them (the popular blockbuster, somtimes B-movie film stars) who end up being the "killers", which IMO, shouldn't be that obvious (the killer's identity). Get my point?

Let me give tonight's episode as an example..

I won't go into details. But to start off, they cast Eddie Kaye Thomas who played Paul Finch on American Pie, and Maury Chaykin, who some people will remember to be the Kidnapper in one of the BMW Films Episodes, "Hire:The Hostage". The director tries to pass their characters roles as minor, it's common to spot them just assisting the CSI detectives in opening a door, doing an interview, etc. -- just parts which I think, essentially help build up the plot and "flow" of the episode's story. BUT if you know them, and spot them and say: "Hey..I know this guy from somewhere..", there you have it, whoever that character is, will eventually play a BIG role towards the end of an episode. Trust me. If they don't turn out to be the killer, they turn out to be the BIG witness..or something..

Going back to my example. I spotted Chaykin's and Thomas' faces instantly, and I again, went back to my theory...I nurtured the thought that I was wrong, really, but lo-and-behold! They turn out to be the "tandem" behind the "crime" perpetrated in the episode. Sorry for the "vague-explanation", as I really try to stay away from spoilers..

So there, that's my theory..When you spot a familiar face in a CSI episode. Chances are, he's either going to be the killer, the poor-victim who ultimately exacts revenge in the end, or hey, I might be wrong, he might just've needed the extra cash so he was casted-in as a "filler-of-sorts" in that episode..

It's rare that I open my "plastic-box-container" of graphic-novels. So after lending my cousin a copy of Arnold Arre's "After Eden" a while ago, I was able to once again, relive all my graphic-novels which I've kept aside for over a year now. I still have to find a snappy-sexy-shelf for them, though. After closing the "plastic-box-container" my graphic-novels comfortably-and-safely reside in, I had this "fan-boy-smile" slapped right on my face. It's weird. Me smiling, realizing that aside from the huge-investment I've made for my collection to grow to what it's now (it still pales, my collection, compared to the collections of some people I know), that they actually make me feel good..about spending money on them. Weird, huh? Hmmm...It's fun, feeling that "fanboy" feeling. And I'm soo happy about "it", I'm posting about "it" here. So there..MWAHAHAHA! You gotta love that distinct comic-book-paper scent..

Bzzt..

Soo on with today's links which I've visited, and come to like, and which I think I'm going to share with you guys..

Today is Free Comic Book Day, well it's actually going to be on Sunday which is Saturday in the States.

Before I forget, the moderator and a couple of members/friends of the comic-book-discussion group I'm also a member of, hey, comics! is going to be distributing an anthology of original short comic strips today. Copies can be had for FREE! at CCHQ and Comic Quest Megamall. It's going to be free just for today, so if you're around the area of Katipunan or Megamall, do drop by and grab a copy. If you live in the US you can actually just walk in a comic-store and ask for FREE comics, but over here comic-shops have to pay shipping costs for the FREE comics, so there's a system of buying I think, a certain amount of comics first before being handed the FREE comics.

The anthology will be free for TODAY only, and I think will be eventually be sold in select locations in the future...More details on the anthology over at Ramon's blog.

Soo..to everyone who have BitTorrent on their PC's, are you using the current-up-to-date release? Downloading the newest version of BitTorrent may actually help you with some tracker issues, speed-when-downloading, even some fatal-bugs.

While you're there getting your up-to-date release, why don't you get yourself a nifty client. Clients are third-party programs which utilize the BitTorrent release on your machine and aid you in seeing everything you'd want to know about your download (yup, there's stuff during a download, which might be help you out, too, not to mention it's pretty cool seeing how many pervs are actually downloading the same home-video you're downloading, perv) i.e: # of connected peers, seeds, error-messages, more accurate ETA's, etc. I personally use the ABC BitTorrent Client, the developers update often, and it's not too much of a resource-hog like Azureus, another popular BitTorrent client I used to use..

So there..

--

I've also been playing a lot of Uplink lately. It's a pretty old game (a 2001 release), and it was just recently that I discovered it through a friend. The moment I had the game installed on my machine, it had me saying to myself: "What have you been playing for the last 3 years!! Why didn't you see me!!". I'm weird that way, my games talk to me. Hehehe..If any of you guys have the chance to try the game, I'd suggest you don't let it pass. It's essentially a game about hacking, there are no 3D-aspects to the game, and it's just loads of fun to play. So there..

David Lynch
is just a twisted man. Really. I was able to watch his old short, "The Alphabet". Scary-twisted-cool shit.

And lastly..I'm pimping Savetheipod.com. If you live in the US, and a citizen. DO something..Grr....
